The Equine Project

Vision Statement

We envision a compassionate network of sanctuaries and refugee-led initiatives where horses are safe, supported, and able to serve as powerful partners in healing.

Through sustainable funding and collaboration, The Equine Project seeks to create a future where no horse is forgotten, and no community is left without access to the therapeutic connection between humans and horses.

Mission Statement

The Equine Project, a new division of The Animal Alliance, is dedicated to empowering local sanctuaries and refugee-led programs that provide care for horses and equine-assisted therapy.

Our mission is to ensure that organizations already doing this vital work have the resources, funding, and support they need to thrive. By strengthening these grassroots efforts, we safeguard the welfare of rescued horses and extend the healing power of equine therapy to communities in need—especially those impacted by displacement, trauma, or crisis.

Core Values

Compassion – We act with empathy and kindness toward both people and animals, honoring the dignity of every life we serve.

Integrity – We uphold transparency, accountability, and ethical practices in all that we do.

Healing – We believe in the transformative power of equine-assisted therapy to restore physical, emotional, and psychological well-being.

Respect – We respect the unique stories, experiences, and abilities of every horse and every person who enters our care.

Partnership – We value collaboration—with donors, sponsors, volunteers, mental health professionals, and our community—to maximize our collective impact.

Stewardship – We are dedicated to responsible, sustainable care for the horses entrusted to us and the resources provided by our supporters.

Organization Summary (for Grant Proposal)

The Animal Alliance is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing animal welfare and creating compassionate systems of support for both animals and people. In El Salvador, where protections and resources for equine welfare are virtually nonexistent, we identified an urgent need to support the few organizations working tirelessly to care for horses and provide equine-assisted therapy to vulnerable communities.

In response, we launched The Equine Project—a new division focused on strengthening the capacity of local sanctuaries and refugee-led initiatives already offering rescue, rehabilitation, and therapeutic programs with horses. Rather than creating new services from the ground up, The Equine Project is designed to fund, support, and amplify the work of these grassroots pioneers.

Our first allies in this mission are Nawali Centro Humano Animal, a sanctuary dedicated to the ethical care and rescue of animals, and the Anabel Tinoco de Mesa Equine Therapy Program, which has been providing life-changing equine-guided therapies to individuals living with trauma, disability, and emotional hardship. These organizations represent the heart of what The Equine Project stands for: local leadership, deep compassion, and a powerful commitment to healing—both human and equine.

Through collaboration, financial support, and long-term capacity-building, The Equine Project aims to ensure that these efforts not only survive, but thrive—bringing dignity, care, and hope to horses and the people who need them most.
